Snug up in a beautifully converted train caboose overlooking the Zig Zag Winery vineyard and the undulating ‘Belltoper' forest beyond, located outside the lovely village of Malmsbury in the Macedon Ranges on Dja Dja Wurrung Country. Originally a 1950s Melbourne ‘red rattler’ guardsman’s carriage, this self-contained, renovated caboose sleeps up to two people and is the perfect escape for a romantic sojourn, nature hit, or solo writer’s retreat. Whatever your reason for visiting, the carriage offers magical views and the opportunity to savour a regenerative, working vineyard and winery whilst you restore and reset.

Dine in or order in catering care of the Flophouse Team or a Daylesford Gourmet picnic or grazing board if you feel like dining al fresco with a bottle of Zig Zag wine. Added to the experience are the complimentary wines and wine tasting at the cellar door, especially for Flophouse guests. Your stay is made all the more special by knowing that this idyllic place is only five minutes from Malmsbury and fifteen minutes to Kyneton, Daylesford or Castlemaine. Please note additional wine can be purchased from the cellar door or the wine rack in the caboose, using the menu provided.

Little Vine Caboose is accompanied by the Owner’s Big Vine House, a mudbrick four-bedroom home that sits approximately 20 metres away and sleeps up to eight guests. The house can be booked separately or together for an additional $500 per night. Either way, you will be rewarded with a sublime stay, enjoying panoramic views over the vineyard and the chance to truly unwind, just over an hour away from the big smoke. Dogs are also welcome by arrangement but must be contained and kept away from the vines due to biosecurity issues.

Drummond is part of the Hepburn Shire. The Dja Dja Wurrung are the traditional owners of the region. We respect and acknowledge the vital role of the traditional custodians of the land on which Zig Zag is located. This region is widely known for its spa culture and tourism.

“This was our third stay at the caboose and it certainly continues to delight. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t playing nice but the lovely bottle of red provided and the cosy fire made for a very comfy stay. Harriet and Henry are amazing hosts and always think of the little details to make everything perfect. Thanks Sarah for the cheeky red at the cellar door”, Kim Oct 23
