For a challenging Goldfields Track walk with some stunning vistas the walk from Faraday to Sutton Grange over Mount Alexander comes highly recommended. Starting on Mcquillans Road, Faraday, just passed the Granite Quarry cross over a farmer's style and then climb a steep granite hill to the top of Mount Alexander, enjoying views like the one pictured at Ed's Seat along the way. The walk is 14ks and ends at Faraday-Sutton Grange Road, Sutton Grange.
This week we swapped Tuesday Touring for Wednesday Wandering and caught the steam train from Maldon to Castlemaine and walked back along the recently redeveloped rail trail. The train left Maldon at 10.30am and after stopping briefly at Muckleford station, arrived at Castlemaine at 11.45am. There was the option to return or take a later train back to Maldon leaving at 3.45pm but we chose to walk home. Walk starts from Langslow Street, Castlemaine and finished back at the Maldon train station. For a full timetable and further details about the train visit the Victorian Goldfields Railway.
