Ceramic Handbuilding Workshop, Stockroom Gallery

  • Stockroom Gallery 98 Piper Street Kyneton, VIC, 3444 Australia (map)

with Alichia van Rhijn of Hearth Collective

$200 includes materials and firing

Handbuilding with clay offers endless opportunities for creating a variety of wares and forms. You will be introduced to the basic techniques of pinching, coiling and slab building to enable you to create various functional and sculptural forms.

This workshop is perfect for beginners, and is an ideal introduction to experimenting with various hand building techniques. During the workshop you will also explore and experiment with various techniques to achieve texture and surface decoration. Being heavily inspired by nature in her own work, Alichia often uses found flora such as leaves, twigs, seeds and banksia pods to scratch or press into her ceramic pieces. There will be some foraged flora for you to use during the workshop.
As this is a full day workshop, you will start with a tour of Alichia’s studio, followed by demonstrations and making. There will be a lunch break after which Alichia will demonstrate various surface decoration techniques followed by an afternoon exploring these techniques. After the workshop your pieces will be fired with a clear or white glaze and can then be picked up.

There is a 4-6 week turnaround for fired pieces.
