The current exhibition Bill Henson: Landscapes will mark the first major exhibition of photography at the Castlemaine Art Gallery and Historical Museum (CAGHM). Bill Henson is widely known as one of Australia's foremost contemporary photographers and shows regularly at Tolarno Gallery, Melbourne and Rosyln Oxley Gallery, Sydney.
Bill Henson is one of Australia’s foremost contemporary artists. Born in Melbourne, Henson’s work has been exhibited extensively in Australia and internationally since the mid-1970’s. Bill Henson: Landscapes presents a selection of Henson’s urban and rural landscape works made between 1997 and 2006.
Hensons elegant, formal photographs – of battered landscapes and fragile, wispy youths – resemble nothing so much as Flemish still-lifes; rarely has colour photography captured so profoundly the furry texture of night time.
